For this project, I want you to create a responsive website that will work on a large screen, a tablet or a smart phone.
Don’t worry. I won’t expect you to know how to code a website. Here is an example of what I want you to create
with your own images: Woodland Park Zoo. There are a number of things that I would change if I were to publish
this site. This is a responsive website design that is made to view on any size screen. I have tried it on my smart
phone and my laptop and it works. Try changing the width of your browser displaying the Woodland Park webpage
to change the placement of the images. Here is a screenshot that shows my code used for the Woodland Park
webpage.
The only thing that you will have to change is the name of the file and a description of the image shown in red on
the screenshot. Website servers are very particular about filenames. You can’t have any spaces or unusual characters
in the filenames. The upper and lower case letters in the filenames have to be exactly the same when you reference
them in the code. The images need to be inside a subfolder of the folder holding this code. The subfolder is
named images. Be very careful not to delete any of the quotation marks. If you accidentally delete a quotation
mark, please copy an existing quotation mark and paste it in the location of the accidentally deleted quotation
mark. Different editors have different quotation marks.
Meerkats.jpg is the name of the file that I saved in the images folder on my computer. The second reference to
Meerkats identifies the content of the images if the image doesn’t load successfully. Here is the code for the website
file in a zip file. Download and save the zip file. Expand the zip file and you should see a .txt file named
FinalProject.txt. You may double click this filename to open the file in a text editor probably Notepad (Windows) or
TextEdit (Mac). You may use an HTML editing program if you have one. Do not use a word processing
application because it adds hidden code. You need to immediately save this FinalProject.txt in the same location
with your last name and an .html extension (i.e. RaderFinalProject.html). An empty images subfile was included in
FinalProjectCode.zip file. This is the location where you should save your image files that will be displayed on the
webpage.
After you have created the four required images, you will change the code that is highlighted in bright red in the
screenshot shown above. Notice that the .jpg file names are in quotation marks with images/ right after the opening
quotation mark. Leave the images/ as it is and put you image name right after the slash with no spaces. You need to
be very careful not to delete the quotation marks and to spell the name of your .jpg image file exactly right (no
spaces and upper/lower cases the same). When you have made the changes please save the code file as a .html
document.
Those students who are totally new to HTML may need help. Please ask for help from me or your fellow students
who have website development experience.
Now for the images. I want you to select a large image (at least 1200 pixels wide) and three smaller images (over
400 pixels wide). All four images need to be related to each other. The overall theme is your choice. They can be
realistic photographs or any other creative design. You may use your Project Six image or use something
completely new.
The images need to be edited to include at least one example of the following requirements. The required edits can
be in any of the four images. For this reason, it is important that you submit notes telling me where to look for each
of the requirements. I will post some tutorials and videos that may be helpful. You are always welcome to share any
helpful tutorials, videos or hints to help your fellow students. Here are the required edits:

When you have finished editing all of the images. Save each one first as a .psd file so you can go back to make
changes. Don’t save them inside of the images folder because all of these .psd image files will be too large to
submit. Save each of the files a second time with a .jpg extension inside of the images folder. Enter the names of
the image files and the description of the images into the code as described above. Save the code file as an .html
file. Open that file in a browser to see if all of the images are visible. If one of the images doesn’t show up in the
browser, go back and check if the spelling of the filename is correct and the name of the file is entered after the
“images/…. ” with no spaces in the name. Also check to see that the image file is in the images folder. If all of the
images show in the browser, make the browser window more narrow to see if the files readjust correctly. Ask for
help if you are having trouble.
